Proposed updates to RIPE Policy Development Process
Dear colleagues,
I would like to draw your attention to a message from Hans Petter Holen, the RIPE Deputy Chair, attached below.
Over the past few months a small task force has been working on some minor changes in the RIPE Policy Development Process. These changes should allow for a more speedy conclusion of the RIPE PDP and for the collective of RIPE Working Group Chairs to act as an appeals body throughout the process. The Task Force has now come to a conclusion - the proposed revision is attached to this email, and community feedback is being sought. It’s intended that these changes can be put in place during the upcoming RIPE Meeting.
This document is very important as it describes how RIPE policies can be made or changed and I would like to urge the whole community to review this document and provide feedback.
Feedback can be sent to the RIPE Community mailing list, more information about subscribing/posting to this list and the public archives is available via http://www.ripe.net/ripe/mail/ripe-mailing-lists/ripe-list
Kind regards,
Paul Rendek Director of External Relations RIPE NCC

From: Hans Petter Holen hph@oslo.net Subject: Updates to RIPE-500: Policy Development in RIPE Date: 4 mei 2014 13:55:55 CEST To: ripe-list@ripe.net
Dear colleagues, The Working-group chairs have for some time been discussing how to improve the Policy Development Process as described in RIPE-500. A small task force with Brian Nisbet as the coordinator and Ondrej Filip, Nick Hilliard and Hans Petter Holen as members has worked out the final details in the text.
The wg-chairs have reached consensus on the attached proposal.
The main change in the PDP is to allow the Working-group Chairs of the working-group developing the policy to declare consensus.
This allows for a more timely conclusion of the PDP, but also allows for the Working-group chairs collectively to act as an appeals body.
I am circulating the new text now for community review and the intent is to put this in place at the coming RIPE meeting.
Yours Sincerely,
Hans Petter Holen RIPE Deputy Chair
